Three fabrics, three different behaviours
Satin is a weave, not a fibre: the threads float over one another to leave a smooth, glossy face and a duller back. Our satin bows are polyester satin, which holds a crisp loop and shrugs off a light shower. The glossy face is the side we tie outward.
Velvet has a short, dense pile standing up from a woven base. It looks deeper in colour than satin because the pile catches the light from many angles. Velvet bows sit a little heavier and suit thicker hair or a low ponytail where the extra weight helps them stay put.
Silk-blend is what we use for scrunchies: silk mixed with viscose so the fabric drapes softly but stands up to being pulled on and off every day. Pure silk scrunchies look lovely and lose their shape quickly; the blend is the compromise we were happy to put our name on.

Clip or barrette: choosing the back
The satin bow is stitched to a snap clip, the slim metal clip that clicks flat when you press it. It is quick, light and right for fine hair, a half-up style or a plait end. The velvet bow is fixed to a French barrette, a curved bar with a hinged catch that closes over a section of hair. A barrette spreads the grip across a wider strip, so it holds a thicker bunch of hair and sits flat against the head.
If you have very fine hair, the barrette can slide; if you have very thick hair, the snap clip may not close. Tell us which you are in the notes and we will say so honestly before you pay.
Kind to the hair you already have
We make no promises about hair itself, only about the pieces. What we can say is mechanical: our scrunchies have the elastic fully enclosed in fabric, with no exposed metal join to catch on strands, and the gathered fabric spreads the grip around a wider band than a bare elastic tie does. The bows are stitched so that no wire ends or glue blobs face the hair side.
Singles and sets
A single silk-blend scrunchie is A$14. The set of three is A$36: three scrunchies chosen to sit together, either three shades of one colour or three neighbouring colours. You choose which trio in the checkout notes. Sets are bundled in one pouch, which makes them an easy present to post straight to someone else.
Colours on this shelf
Satin bows come in blush, ivory, sage and black. Velvet bows come in plum, forest green, navy and black. Scrunchies come in champagne, blush, dusty lilac, sage, teal and charcoal. Trios are offered as soft (champagne, blush, lilac), garden (sage, teal, champagne) and evening (charcoal, teal, lilac).
Looking after fabric pieces
Hand wash scrunchies in cool water with a little mild soap, press the water out in a towel and dry them flat. Do not wring silk-blend: the twist sets creases into it. Velvet bows should not go in water at all. Brush the pile gently with a soft clothes brush and, if it has been crushed in a bag, hold it in the steam of a hot shower for a minute and let it fluff back up.
